How it works
How selling your business to Richmonds works
Deals like this usually take three to six months from first conversation to completion. You can pause or stop at any point before completion, and nothing is binding until contracts are signed.
The five steps
-
First conversation
An informal call or coffee with Sanjeev about your plans, your team and what matters to you. No figures are needed.
What you need: nothing beyond a sense of your plans and timing.
-
Confidentiality and information
We sign a confidentiality agreement, then review your accounts, contracts and how the business runs day to day.
What you need: recent accounts, a summary of contracts and customers, and an outline of your team and accreditations.
-
Indicative offer
A written proposal setting out value, structure, how the price is paid and what happens to your team. If you are happy with it, we agree the main terms before going further.
What you need: time to review it with your advisers.
-
Due diligence
Our advisers check the detail with yours: finances, contracts, employment, accreditations and legal matters. We keep it focused and respectful of your time.
What you need: your accountant and solicitor, and answers to a structured list of questions.
-
Completion and handover
Contracts are signed and the sale completes. Then a planned transition, normally six to twelve months, with you alongside us introducing key customers and handing over knowledge.
What you need: an agreed handover plan, made with you, not for you.
All discussions are subject to contract. Nothing on this website is an offer to buy any business.
How the price is paid
Offers are normally a mix of a payment at completion and further payments over the following years. Any payments due after completion are part of the agreed price and written into the sale contract. We explain how every part works, and agree it with you, before anything is signed.
How acquisitions are funded
Each acquisition is funded from Richmonds' own resources and, where a deal needs it, bank or specialist acquisition finance. We show you how a deal will be funded before you commit, and your advisers can check it as part of the process.
Telling your team and customers
Your staff and customers only hear about a sale when you decide. Many owners tell their team close to completion, and we plan that conversation with you.
Guides for owners

Can I pull out once we have started?
Yes. You can pause or stop at any point before completion. All discussions are subject to contract, so nothing is binding until contracts are signed.
